Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life by Steve Martin
General Fiction
Call#: 792.702 Mar
By far the best autobiography I've ever read. Martin takes you through the journey of his life with a writing style that completely captivates his readers. He tells of how his success grew out of a love of being in front of people and performing. From his days working at the magic store in Disneyland to performing at Knott's Berry Farm and then his rise to stardom after his appearance on Saturday Night Live. This incredible journey told from his own perspective highlights his dedication to his craft over the years, perfecting his comedic talents, and his rise to superstardom. The reader also learns of the turmoil and isolation Martin faced and why he never returned to stand-up comedy again. A very funny, entertaining and at times touching look at the "wild and crazy guy!"
