Like all of Kerr's books involving Bernie Gunther, nothing is as it seems and soon Bernie is back at his true game as a fast-talking, irreverent, private detective running, hiding, and scheming to save his life. All the loose ends are drawn together in a satisfying conclusion that leaves one hungry for more. This is an excellent read for anyone who loves thrillers.
